I wanted to post a thread to share the growth progression of my two festae. I know when I got my first festae, I was hopeful for a female. Since most LFS sell juveniles at around 2.5-3 inch it’s often really tough to figure out the sex. After reading these forums, sounds like females have black pigmentation on dorsal and lack the blue soeckling of the fins. The first festae I bought have a spit of black pigmentation and I assumed it was a female. Here was the fish when I first got it :

At this point the fish was looking more male with the blue speckled fins

Now this is 5/2018:
Clearly looking like a male
This is my second festae which I’m hoping will be female that I picked up in May:
