Festae or Urophthalmus

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Nice fish. Think that damage will heal or is it permanent?
Mine are fed a varied diet also including Hikari Chiclid pellets, lots of frozen Krill, frozen mysis shrimp, freeze dried earthworm, tetra crisps and flake, etc.
And I agree, they are not festea but beautiful in thier own way.
Thanks for sharing

The damage seems to be permanent. Which Hikari Cichlid Pellets do you use? I use the Bio-Gold. Sounds like you have a good diet for your Mayans.

plz make a sticky how to tell difference between mayans and festae. this question is asked almost on a daily basis or seems like it anyway.

That's too bad. Hopefully he/she will grow out of it.

I am currently using the Hikari Cichlid Staple (green bag), Tetra Cichlid Crisps (I buy this stuff in bulk from LFS), freeze dried earthworm (all my fish go crazy for these), and the frozen mysis, krill, etc. I am headed to my favorite not so local fish shop today (about 1 hour 20 minute drive) to stock up as I am running low. I think I will change things up a bit and get some Hikari gold or bio gold as well as the usual fair.

Well, I currently have 10 tanks up and running with well over 600 gals.
All fresh water and mostly CA/SA cichlids. The mayans were in desperate need of rescue from one of the LFS's. They were in a fairly small tank and very over crowded, with some in the group being quite ill. Unfotunately, I could only take three home.

The same shop has a group of Salvini that are most likely severly stunted by now as I have seen this same group in that tiny tank for several months now. It truly is a shame :( Wish I could rescue them all.
:idea:hmmmm If I could set up a few hospital/rescue tanks maybe I could save some of these doomed cichlids and rehome them to cichlids fans here on MFK as well as other web forums. I will mull over this idea and run it by the wife, see if it is feasable, what do you all think. Sorry to derail, may need to start a new thread on this.

Here's another pic of one of the little guys.

Now this is a great idea - how does one go about making a "sticky"?
