another observation over the years i noticed too, ive looked at thousands of festae pictures as im sure you all have. there has never been a female ive seen that doesnt have a broken Y bar. thats why i was so sure mine was male too. then i put her in and now the Y bar is blotchy when it was flawless before. looks like her bar will also have a break in it.

Bubba, that is certainly a beautiful pair that you have there! I hope the male plays nice long enough for you to get some fry from the pair. Good luck with them!

OP's festae is male

I'm with you...I say male as well.

I do agree that sexing from a picture can be difficult because it's always possible someone captured a shot at a moment when the fish was being more aggressive or passive at the time and therefore showing coloration that matches the mood at the time. It's best to get a series of pics and even better a few pics from a few different days to be able to observe as much evidence as possible before making a determination.

i hope so too. he has moments where they do the dance and things are looking good. othertimes he chases like he wants to kill her. ive made a nice spot for her to escape and shes coming and going at will. my temp right now is at 80. im going to raise to 82 and start doing 40 percent water changes every 3 days. ill keep ya posted =)
