I have bad news guys. Came home to find only about 20 eggs left that seem to be good but the male is really stressed he sits at the bottom of the tank all day. I think im going to lose him. He has no physical damage I can see. Female is still taking care of the remaining eggs. I think the male ate them or something. I expect the remaining eggs to hatch tomorrow morning. Is there a possibility that the male got sick from eating the eggs? He just sits at the bottom of the tank stressed. I will have a video up later today.

Just As I thought came home to a dead male :( I might just go a different direction I have gone through so many festae and have spent so much money on them Im about ready to call it quits. Might just eep female alone or grow out a male.
Im not sure what happened but all eggs were gone and male was dead. He never really settled in very well he was skittish and a finicky eater. Its a shame he had so much potential.

Damn I so sorry bro. Don't give up yet. Keeping festae successfully is very challenging trust me. I've giving up a couple times just to get right back into it, and would have saved even more money staying with it the first time. But once you get it down you'll be unstoppable. I mean look dude, you just successfully had your first festae spawn! Yes you may need a break for a minute but don't get rid of what you have now.

Thanks bro but i will be moving soon and spending $500 on another male is not an option I had plans to keep this pair as my breeders but sadly thats not happening any more. I sold my other male due to not being able to ID his origin so now im stuck with 1 6" female, 1 5" female 1 4" female and 2 4" males. Dan Woodland male is not looking good either he has not ate well since I got him he gets chased by what were supposed to be dithers. The smaller male is now chunky and looking good but he is related to the females so I don't want to breed him. So my only hope is that the Dan Woodland starts eating and puts on size.

I accidentally sent you a festae from umbeeking so the smaller one isn't related to females. I'd say you prolly need to medicate them longer. Sounds like you have a parasite in your system that is infecting your fish. I hope the rest make it bro. I might be able to hook you up with a male from my original Ecuador pair in a month or so. Those won't run u that much. After you medicate try pairing woodland male with smaller female otherwise sell her and grow the males out for your big girls

If I do have a parasite wouldn't my other fish be affected? I did a 50% water change today and moved the smaller festae together the smaller male and smaller female are flirting but Im going to see what happens. Its crazy how fast the my large male went down hill the week before spawning he was looking great the day the spawn he looks the same, the second day he is on the floor stressed and most eggs missing, thrid day male is dead and the eggs that were supposed hatch were gone. female lost wher color and was stressed I moved the other festae with her and she looks a bit better. I will what happens so far I just added salt to help.

Thanks bro for the offer. Let me know when you get them any pics of your old pair?

I'm not sure if I have any. I'll look around and send them to you. But flowerpower has a pair from them, you can see those. And all the festae from that pair look just as good.

Sorry to hear about your festae. If it is a parasite, I've been successful with seachem metronidazole but only when the cichlids actually ate it, treating the water only never really worked for me. I had two Jack Dempsey cichlids a couple years back that I bought off someone and they wouldn't eat for nothing for 3 weeks straight. I finally bought some live bloodworms and started letting it soak with the seachem metro. At first they'd take the bloodworms in and spit it out but after a while they would hold it down and within a week of treatment they were gorging on all kinds of food. I've never bought a fish without watching it eat since then, it was a nooby mistake.

id hang in there with the festae they're way too colorful to give up on! Sounds like you got a male and female on hand that are different blood so id try that
