Festae- Quality VS Trash!!

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Very interesting thread here. My thoughts is that F1 or wild. You can still come out with a flawless boss fish. And also fish are nice in the eye of the beholder. People sometimes get caught up in who they got there fish from or which festae came from which river. I have seen nice lfs festae and nice line bred and wild festae. Alot of it has to do with the care of each fish and diet.

A store near me in NJ. Supposedly it was a wild strain, I only give it a little bit of truth due to the green undertone. Even places I know and trust I question a lot of "wild" fish per say. But this lil bugger has really nice coloring, so I think.

Sharke Aquarium, perhaps?

True to a certain extent. As I have stated to a few, if you take a pair of F0 Festae and breed them in a tank, the only difference between the tank born fry(F1) and those they previously produced in a river is the water moving through their gills. The genetics are exactly the same. So in this respect, I personally don't place too high premium on F0 vs F1. But given the choice, I prefer F0 slightly over F1, because I can get F1's anytime with F0's, but I can't get the same vice-versa. F0's also have the wild profile I prefer. I agree that there are good looking festae to be found out there whether it is in LFS's, local breeders, etc. But it takes much more than good care and diet. If any one fish doesn't start out with good genetics and little to no flaws no amount of good food or clean water is gonna fix Freddy-Festae's(Kruger's) charming mug.:eek3:

As for being caught up in F#'s, what's wrong with it being important? Some of us prefer to remain as close to nature's original design as possible. Some of us are purist. others generalist, some opportunist.
Let's say you are shopping for a Toyota Corolla, but the salesman offers you a Chevy Prizm. Which would you buy?
I can here those asking, how does this relate? I'll wait for a few MFK thinkers to chime in, then I will elaborate.

All this talk about F0 festae being deformed or produce deformities are baseless. If you get your hands on True F0 Ecuadorian or True F0 Peruvian festae for that matter. You will have a nice fish the majority of the time. The last three years is when all these mutants showed up. I have been breeding festae since 1994 and I have never experienced any of these deformities. I mean everywhere one looks. Mutants over here, mutants over there, mutants everywhere. It is sad that the true beauty of a magnificent fish can't be appreciated because of the substandard specimens that have been sold all over the place in the last three years. Beware of the F0 wild claim. In most cases the F stands for foolish if you buy and the 0 stands for 0 chance of your festae being wild. Stop getting caught up in the F0 craze. F numbers are pointless if you start out with a substandard specimen. Mutants begets mutants. And yes beauty is in the eye of the beholder. I just think everyone should at least see what a festae should look like. Please Post pics of these F0 festae please. I have posted pictures of a true F0 Peruvian on this thread. I have posted Ecuadorian festae all over the place. I don't claim to have the best festae in the world. However, they are a good representation of what festae should look like. I hope I did not offend anyone because that was not my intention.:)

These are what our F0 Peruvians look like and rest assured they are Savages and Gluttons with an emphasis on savage in our larger ones. The smaller ones are just gluttons right now as you can see.

Billy, that Peruvian is simply stunning.

If anyones knows Festae its these two guys so anyones argument contrary has no foundation !!!!
