Festae Question

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Mine aren't skittish and are definitely not shy hiders all the time. Granted I can't pet them like a dog but they don't hit the glass if I try to. But they're not brave enough to attack me or have no desire to attack me like my former Midas or Dovii used to either lol. I grabbed the camera yesterday while changing the water.

(Turn the volume down, I used the "Do you feel lucky" button and let Youtube choose my song)

Such an amazing pair balton, thanks for sharing. How often will these two breed for you?

And btw, I'm loving that music! I turned my speakers to 11 ;)

Thanks Mike...I'm always happy to share them. They only bred twice in 2010 and both times ate the eggs. They haven't bred for a while now though. It's the first time I've ever raised Festae this big so I don't have previous experience with large adults, I hope they still spawn when they're this size. Acutally I've been trying to keep them from spawning for the last year and a half to try and get the maximum growth out of them. Maybe it was a mistake...oh well.

Nice video man...yea, mine were never that brave.

I was waiting for Fabio to bust through my walls with that music...WTF is youtube thinkin?:nilly:

Balton777 there a wonderfull couple. Congrats! I have a question about yours. You said they laid eggs only twice a year. Is that their general behaviour or breeding only twice a year or for example my old scallare couple breed every week if you take out the eggs, the breeding lack depends on your water conditions or what? As I mentioned before i have 10 juveniles and trying to form at least 3 couples out of them. If their breeding is twice a year than it sucks!

You might have to give them another go around in the future now that you know they're not all like that. Lol at Fabio.

I'm not sure why they breed so little, I thought maybe it's because they're too old. You might be onto something though, my water could be too hard, too soft or too something else. I dunno....but when I had a young pair of Festae, they bred all the time. I couldn't get them to stop making babies on top of babies. That's why I had the "old festae" theory.

This gives me an idea for another thread.

Yea, if I ever get a "fish room" or have a xxx thousand gallon tank like at Bass Pro Shops, I probably will.
