Hello, Im from spain, here is very difficult find this fish. Today I find one of this about 2". This specie what is? Amphilophus or Cichlasoma? when start female show red colors? It grow fast or slow? thanks
 
do you have pics and as far as showing colors it varies. do you mean stay showing colors but when i got mine the the color went in and out you could mostly see the colors in his fins and i got him at like an inch , also they tend to grow real slow
 
Thanks, I buy it for when it was growing to put it with the big ones, but its grow slow...then, how many time I see its male or female?
 
Im not sure what your asking but I think you mean when can you tell is it male or female?

As far as the genus classification, Jeff Rapps (cichlid breeder/importer/vendor extrordinaire) used to list them as Amphilophus but has recently changed his listing to Cichlasoma so I guess they're Cichlasoma Festae when start female show red colors? Females start to show their vibrant red color at about 4"+. It grow fast or slow? Females grow very slowly and males a little faster. thanks

im pretty sure those are not true festae. they are "false" red terrors aka the mayan cichlid. cichlasoma uropthalmus
