I am getting ready to order a nice wild caught group of 7 of these guys and was wondering if anyone has had them or what I should know? Tank size, etc. Are they similar to the Freddies? They are nice looking fish and I want to add them to my breeding stock. Thanks.

can be aggressive mostly to each other....They are one of the nicest cichlids IMO..How big r yours?? how many females and males??

They are beautiful and highly agressive cichlids.Not so bad when smaller(except with there own kind) but when they are larger they get quite mean.They are also slow growers

Got a couple of questions;

Where are you ordering them from?

And why did you decide on wild versus tank raised?

I've had them before? Beautiful freshwater cichlid. Agressive and needs lots of room. I'd say a full grown breeding pair should have a minimum of 150 gallons and that a divider would still be needed. Males can become so aggressive that they'll kill the female (in close quarters) without warning.

Males are absolutely brutal, females can be so-so but still violent no matter what.

I've seen a group in an 8x2x2 tank (possibly 6x2x2) consisting of 1 adult male and 4 adult females living peacefully, but from what I understand they need about a 150 gallon to breed or the male will beat the piss out of the females.
