There not worms... They look idenical to hair or some fiber of some sort... I dont know if bacteria or anything can look like that. Could hair or fiber( from filter?) hurt the fish if its in the tank? Im sure it will get broken down sometime. Im trying to avoid cleaning everything. But it looks like little tiny hair. About a Milimeter or two in lenth. Could it possibly be pet hair that got chopped up by the propeller an sent back in the tank? I catch the cats on the tank once in awhile. I got a glass lid that lifts up. An I honeslty think its hair or fiber. But I dont know where it came from. Could it be fibers from a filter cartridge? I keep my tank clean, An do water changes so its not like I dont clean my tank... Look at my pictures in profile. An yeah my water was cloudy its clearing up now.

Theres what my ex calls a clean tank and what I call a clean tank, one involves about 8 more water changed and 16 more hours of work on the tank a month minimum.

The only way your going to get a cut in two pieces if it is being cut with something extrodinarly sharp or has tenstion on both ends to allow a cuttable surface. wispy little hairs are hard to cut. I have long hair and end up with it rinsed in the fish tank quite often... They float on top away from the current from where ive found them. Filters should be rinsed out/beaten off to get rid of anything on them. Least what I believe.

Glad its clearing up though

Doubt your empellers are chopping up anything, they're not blenders. Hair gets wrapped around them, not cut up n spit on by. Was you messing with your gravel or filters when you spotted it? Or they just appear out of nowhere?

I just noticed that I have what you guys are talking about....Its been about 3 weeks since my last water change...I cleaned my gravel 3 weeks ago, but didn't do any else but put water and water cond.

What do I need do to get rid of these nasty things? There aren't many but enough that I notice them...

should I clean the glass with my algae scraper?

I'm going to do a 50% water change and Im going to pay extra attention to the gravel clean up...

do i need any chemicals to prevent my P's from getting infected?

sometimes they are just free floating in the water and not moving much, tilapia flakes would look more like ... flakes... if they are hair like then probably planarian. they don't just live in gravel, could live in sand too, basically any substrate or could even be in bare bottom tank.

once you remove their food source they will eventually die off but could take a while. other things you can do is add some cheap small fish into the tank like zebra danios, neon tetras, etc. they will eat those worms, hopefully they'll be able to clean them off before your rbps wipe them out.

keeping your water clean and remove all the uneaten food will def. in the long run.
even with sand you can vacuum out all the poop and uneaten food.

Please allow me to bring 2 quotes together so they can answer each other = )

Lol thing is though, I do keep my tank clean an I still have them. An to answer a question they popped out of nowhere. I was feeding an I knoticed them. Though I did a water change 3 days before an they were not there. Thats what has me bugging, They are obviously still there an I have done around 20% water change for past 3 days. Seems like the fibers are getting smaller? An they have always been up by the water level an slightly below. Some float down to the bottom, just to rise back up because if the airstone.

You should do a larger water change then 20 if you're trying to overturn most of the water
