Thank you for your help btw. My husband has a few saltwater tanks in the house and he gave me this tank so I could get a flowerhorn but, hes better with saltwater than freshwater so he hasnt been able to help much.
Okay so dose it after WC then in the morning and again after another WC in the evening? So 2 doses a day?Dose that prime directly after the WC for the whole 55 gallons of water volume. Give the same dose again in the morning. Do another large WC tomorrow evening. Continue this routine until your ammonia and nitrite are in check. You'll be able to determine this with your test kit
Ok cool, sounds easy enough. Now what about the stringy poop, is that because of the ammonia and stuff as well?Yup..at least for the next few days. Dose twice. The prime will bind the ammonia into a non toxic form that your bb (beneficial bacteria) can still consume, so it won't slow down the process.
Yup...ammonia poisoning will cause an array of symptoms that mimic every type of fish disease out there. That's why fish stores stock their shelves with all kinds of medications...it's sad but trueOk cool, sounds easy enough. Really, so many people were telling me to do the salt !!! So waterchanges are the biggest thing. Should I still keep the temp higher than normal? Its hard to know what to do when everybody says different things !Also, you can skip adding salt and all that nonsense...I'm glad none of those guys are physicians, we'd be getting treated with chemotherapy for the common cold!!
I really appreciate your help ! I would have continued doing all of the wrong things until eventually he probably died ! I will keep you updated on how everything goes. Before I put my fh in my tank, we had 12 goldfish in it for about a week per advice from the guy at a lfs. Its like they tell you things knowing its not right so that you come back to spend money on more things to fix what went wrong ! I hope he makes it, Ive had him less than 2 weeks but im already attached to him.I understand...unfortunately everyone overlooked the obvious problem. I'm sure when some of them read this thread there will be a lot of forehead smacking going on..lol! The higher temp won't really hurt anything, but I'd slowly bring it down to around 80° over the next couple days. Speeding up your fishes metabolism right now with high temps wouldn't be a good idea seeing that it hasn't been eating.
