Since Iam new at africans I hope this isnt a stupid question but they always seem to fight everytime I add a new fish so whe I add fish should I add more then one at a time also is 6.99 a good price for 2 jewels petsmart has them on sale. Thanks Pat

How big of tank do you have, and how many fish are currently in the tank

Also not a good idea to mix malawi with Tang""s

Need more details to help you out. But as for the price.. Thats not bad. Petco's cichlids are not the best I do not believe,.

I have a 100 gal tank there is about 25 fish mostly small Petsmarts fish here are all rather nice so far plus if anything happen or if you dont like them you can get your money back within 14 days. I really like the jewels could I keep them in my 20 empty right now till they get bigger then get a bigger tank. Thanks

Petsmart sells alot of different african cichlids, they have a mixture of tang""s and Malawi ( Mbuna)

Could you maybe take pictures so we know what exactly is in your tank.. Or do you know off the top of your head what fish are in there.

Also, the mbuna's and Tang**s like alot of rocks and hiding places. If you do not have a rocky environment, or hiding spots they will be more aggressive for terrirory.

Just check Thread updated pic by me theres a pic there Pat I know about the caves and stuff just seems to upset them when you add new fish so I was wondering should you add more then one at a time maybe move some rocks around when you add new fish .

Pat, don't worry about the aggression to new comers. It's a standard thing for Cichlids as they are quite territorial. However, I would worry if the aggression is constant and lasts for over a day or so. I always get the same behaviour when I add new fishes in my tank but the aggression subsides after several minutes.

I wouldnt overly worry about it. The fighting should die out after a few hours.. They tend to settle their own battles =P

But also keep in mind if you mixed Malawi's and Tang**s there most likely will be problems down the road. Good luck!
