Hey everyone, i just came in from school and i see my 4.75 in jag beat up. his fins and tail are shredded, and scales are missing. But yet yesterday he was looked fine. He is in a 55G tank with 3 black belts, one dovii, one dempsey, and one female convict. And i have a pic so you guys can see the size of everyone. Can u guys tell me what i can do to prevent this and still keep everyone together

you can't keep all those fish together. period end of story.

exactly!

not to be unhelpful but u have...
incompatible stocking of fish
tank too small

each day is going to be worse than the last.
u can take ur pick as to which fish beat him up.

trade some fish back to ur lfs and reduce aggression that way. get a 150 gal or a 180 gal too, u'll enjoy it more!

good luck and keep us updated...

oh ok, well i do plan on gett a 150 maybe in a month or so. do u think with a 150 i can still stock all these fish

Get the tank, then get the fish. You're already having some issues now, a month may be too late. Also a month might turn into 3+ months before you get a tank.

yep, sad to say they are right :\ you might have to choose who to keep, i'll bet you a hundred bux it was one of those Vieja that did it, they are real m-effers, you're tank stock is like mixing fire and gasoline.they are all gonna get bigger and untill you get a bigger tank, i recommend you seperate by divider

I would start by getting rid of the Dovi.
It would be a stretch to keep him by himself in a 150.

Create caves by stacking your rock vertically, or get terra cotta pots (cheap) and break the bottom out with a screwdriver & hammer. You want to create hiding places and break up the line of sight.

This may help for a little while.
I would keep as many of the Black Belts as possible in the 150. They will probably not all get along. It won't take long to find out which is boss.

The Dempsy and the Convict should be OK in the 55 if they last long enough.

Good Luck!

i could stack my rock vertically but it seem like someone is always knocking them down and i dont want the rock so high and it falls and then i have 55 gallons of water on my bedroom floor.

I disagree that you can't put them all together, considering the size of the tank you're obviously not gonna be able to house them for a real long time but you can for a while. If you do want them to live together you have to know what each peticular fish would prefer as far as hiding spots, you should have caves in each corner of the tank and maybe some floating plants. If anyone disagrees with that, check out my 200 in my albums...
