Figure 8'S?!!??!??!

I've had a school of figure 8 puffers with a pair of avocado puffers. The avocados would nip at the 8s but after a while they stopped. The 8s are generally active puffers and are fun to watch. How are your 8s doing?
 
That's interesting... How long did they live?
 
I just converted my 40gal over to a brackish tank. It has two figure 8 puffers and a goby in it. Currently the level is at 1.005. At the LFS they had the salinity listed at 1.018-1.021. After all the research I have done this appears to be almost full marine (please forgive if this is incorrect, I am new at brackish). I have had them in the tank for three days at this level and they seem to be doing fine. Do I need to start doing water changes or something to increase the level to what they were living in? Just not sure what to do. Really like the puffers....also, how big do they really get. What is the best diet for them? In a 40 gal, is there room for anything else? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.
 
I have two figure 8s in a tank with anubis and java. The anubis is doing alot better then the java which has alot of circular holes in the leaves. I have a small knight goby and so far as long as the goby doesn't try and snitch food from the puffers all is well, all the puffers have to do is swim at him and he gets out of their way. I get little snails from the LFS that show up in their planted tanks, once a week they get gut loaded ghost shrimp or they get small cray fish or shrimp with the shell on, plus I feed a variety of frozen to them (brine shrimp, blood worms, mysis shrimp, beef heart, krill,)

Love how personable they are, always watching me and trying to get my attention. Thinking about getting a couple of Ceylons next.

I keep my brackish at .008 when I was researching the general opinions seemed to be .006 - .009 so I stay in the middle, my marine puffers are kept at .025
There is some rule of thumb about raising the salinity, can't remeber what it is so hopfuly someone else does.

I do weekly water changes like all my tanks. Remember if the water gets low from evaperation use fresh water as the salt is still there just the water is gone.

So do I try to increase the salinity to what it was in the LFS, or do I just raise it from .005 to .008? They are both swimming around great and have eaten without any problems. Colors are bright and don't appear to be in any stress.
 
There was a decade-long study on these puffers & the conclusion was they do best at a SG of 1.005. The scientist who did this study had his F8s living over 18 years this way.
