Filet-O-Fish: McDonald’s Most Overlooked Sandwich

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Had one just yesterday, still very average LOLZ :grinyes:

You must have gotten an exceptionally good one.

It's probably the healthiest thing on the menu

Well, maybe more accurate to say it's the least unhealthy...

Being a cyclist, a lean fit one, there are some foods which simply must be avoided. The food I do eat needs to serve a purpose, and anything from McDonald's does not fall into that category!

That is the mindset that I must maintain.

Holy smokes, guys...eating is supposed to be a pleasure, not a job!

Mind you, the Filet-o-Fish fails on both fronts. :)

This thread reminds me of a sign mounted in a favourite old-time deli I used to frequent:

"Eat intelligently, don't smoke, don't drink, exercise, get plenty of sleep...die anyways!" :)

This is very true, can't deny it. That list is pretty much how I live my life nowadays, although the last one hasn't caught up with me yet!!!

Through the choices I make regarding my mental and physical wellbeing, I hope that it remains that way for a good while yet!!

But at the end of the day it doesn't matter how I live my life, if a truck runs over me tomorrow whilst I'm biking it would have all been in vain, lol.

Did they discontinue those crappy salads and wraps they had? Probably for the best if they did, I don't know a single person that liked them, lol.
I personally think the Filet-o-Fish tastes like greasy, breaded cardboard with cheap tartar sauce and bread. No idea why they put cheese on it; seemed unnecessary IMO.
Then again, I haven't had anything from McDonalds in years... Might try some of their stuff again sometime over the weekend, if I have time.

I'm almost embarrassed to admit that an Egg McMuffin is still one of my favourite quick breakfasts when I'm heading out in the pre-dawn to go fishing...but even then I prefer the equivalent Bacon'n'Egg Biscuit at Tim Horton's if I have the choice. :)

Honestly, the best thing at McD's nowadays is the coffee, far better than Timmy's if I'm gonna be honest. But now that Timmy's has their lovely dark roast coffee, even that isn't enough to get me to go into a McD's anymore.

This remark astounds me. Only today the wife and I had a little trip out shopping. We passed a small cafe and I asked her if she fancied a coffee. She declined because she wanted to get home because she was going up to her mums.

But she did say if you fancy a coffee we'll get a takeaway coffee from McDonald's at the drive thru. I told her she must be joking. Going off the quality of their fare I remarked that the coffee would probably be like dish water.

But she replied that she's been told off a few people that their coffee is surprisingly good.

I may need to investigate this further.....and of course get a filet o fish whilst I'm there, lol.

I heard that McDonalds typically buys good-quality beans and tends to make sure the coffee stays fresh- which sounds pretty weird for a company that keeps lowering the quality of their food while driving prices through the roof, lol.
A few folks swear that McDonalds coffee is superior to Starbucks, which I thought was rather interesting.

I am one of those people.

About 15 years ago, McD's coffee was just as bad as everything else on the menu...excluding, of course, those wonderful fries. They switched the coffee over then...different supplier, different coffee maker, who knows what....and had a promotion in which they offered free coffee. At the time I was commuting well over 100km each way to work on a daily basis, and my normal routine had me stopping at a Tim Horton's in a small town near my house as I drove into the city. My breakfast was normally a breakfast biscuit and a large black Timmy's...but unlike most Canadians, I really wasn't a huge fan of Timmy's coffee. So after hearing a few co-workers recommending McD's coffee, I tried it and I was blown away. It was wonderful! I actually stopped each morning at Timmy's for my breakfast sandwich but then drove right next door to McD's for my coffee. This went on for years, until Timmy's finally brought out their second or third version of dark roast coffee; they had finally gotten it right and it quickly became my favourite and thus saved all that jumping around in the pre-dawn darkness just to get a breakfast I enjoyed.

Starbucks? Can't stand the place. Aside from requiring one to take out a loan to buy coffee there, they make you jump through all these hoops requiring multiple choices regarding your coffee; they have a dozen or more different types, they all smell different, but they all taste the same, and it ain't good. :(
