Can anyone fill me in on the pike cichlid? Just give me a general idea of what to expect from one, not a dwarf. thanks any good links will help.

Thats a bit difficult, since there are dozens of species.

mostly they are aggressive to other pikes. They are carnivorous, but don't demand live foods. I'm not sure about pellets though. Other than dwarfs, they range from 8 inches to more than a foot and a half.

They are carnivourous and will accept pellets floating and sinkin carnivore massivore if you have the patience otherwise , they will gobble down frozen silversides, krill
I find that they are fairly agressive towards other Pikes once they pass the juvenile stage, especially if they are in smaller tanks

what tank and fish were you looking to put them in, then we can give you more specific info on what pike you should get :grinno:

Welp actually i have already adopted the pike. Hes in a 90 gallon right now with a parrotfish who doesnt like him very much. he doesnt seem to pay no mind unless she messes with him

ill post a pic in a min

pictures will be necessary, one thing you shouldnt do... feed live, that will make it even harder to get it onto prepared

well i tried to take a pic of him but hes perfectly blended in with the black background. The most obvious features is he has red fins, and red dots all over him.

Heres a pic i took earlier i know its really crappy but its the only one right now that i can get. As you can see the little firemouth defending his territory, lol. He will probably get eatin, i hope not i kind of like that little guy.! I put the eggcrate up right now because the parrotfish woundnt stop pestering him. Ill take it out when hes a little more acclimated to the tank

i do find him to be a very beautiful cichlid. He changes color like crazy. When i fisrt seen him he was almost yellowish/white with a stripe going down his side. he can change color like crazy, never seen a cichlid who could like he does. (change color that is)

I can see him from where im sitting and hes swimming around a little bit, im going to go try to snap a shot

just changes color because he is stressed if he has one horizontal stripe sometimes he would be a venezuelan especially if he is like a total tan color the rest of the time
venezuelan will ourgrow that tank get 14"+
