You absolutely do not need chambers to direct the flow of water through the biomedia. Its a falsehood. I love poret foam but the beauty of a sump is ease of maintenance. Since you have sock holders the poret foam will just be some unnecessary maintenance. You can use a tee and create two draines and add another sock holder to create more mech. Order 10 or 15 200 micron socks from mcmaster carr. Rotate clea ns socks with dirty. Once a month throw the dirties in the wash machine

Idk if you guy wanna chase the anaerobic bunny good luck lol. You also need very low gph. Too low for a sump, maybe in a dedicated filter thats secondary. I tried it. Got results for a couple of weeks then failed. Its allot of work.

Man good luck. Lots of variables effect those little suckers.

Imo all these nitrate reducing bio media are scams. Without the low oxygen environment it wont grow. For the money and effort purigen is better. Atleast at this time with what we have available to us.

Ikd man. For the monsters we keep you would need a crazy amount of plants even then im not a big believer.

Check out marks algae scrubber thread. I think that has allot of promise

I had a scrubber on my salt system but then got a biopellet reactor and that did way more then the algae scrubber, maybe because I didnt have the correct wave length to really make it grow crazy. I also had tons of macro algaes which im sure didnt hurt at all.

So my home filtration system removes nitrate via ion exchange and salt almost like how purigen works. It would be great some of the filter companies like eheim made a system similar
