filter build for 300

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Ah..bottom drain...one of the reasons I went with the stock tank. It has a 1.25 drain built in. It came with a plug but will be getting a valve :)

IF there's a hole there already then it will be easier to hog it out. I'd make it as big as possible. You need a rush of water to get that crud out. You'll be happy you did.

As far as the micron socks 100 is fine but if you get the sewn together 100/200 micron ones they're still washable and will take 3X longer to plug up......

So much for trusting the website. I second guessed myself while out getting supplies. Originally thought 1.25"..then thought I'd check the website from where I bought the tub to be sure. It said 1.5". So, I buy all the 1.5" supplies to put a valve on the drain bulkhead. Got home and it was 1.25" :nilly: Oh well, not my first time taking things back to Lowes. lol

Looks great man, what thickness is the plexi on the filter sock holder? I only ask because they can become quite heavy when full just a heads up :)

Are you doing a 24/7 drip system on the tank?

The plexi is 1/4" and seem pretty sturdy as is, but I've already considered drilling a hole dead center and running a 3/4" pvc support pole down to the bottom of the tub if needed. I'd put a male adapter on the upper end of the pipe to protrude through the hole in the plexi.

I'd do a drip if I had anywhere close to drain it. It needs to be on the dry side of my basement, all my drain plumbing is on the other side AND higher than the sump will sit.

considering that the tray will be holding the walls of the drip tray, it shouldn't really matter if it's not 100% sealed on the joins. the little water that will escape through, will not overflow the rim of the baking tray and just end up joining the rest of the water falling through the scrubbies. you should be fine on that front. looks good overall. i went with a rubbermaid container originally, but it wasn't as heavy duty, so i had to build a frame to support it. it still cracked on me and leaked from small holes due to manufacturing, but like i said, it wasn't nearly as robust. i now have my 90gal sitting there with a drip tower full of scrubbies. you'll notice a huge different in your cleaning routine. it keeps it cleaner for so much longer.
can't wait to see more of your build.
