filter build for 300

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Made some more progress when I got back to work and had access to the carpenter shop. I made the cover for the pump end of the sump and also made a cover for the revised drip tray. The spray bar wasn't distributing water as well as just merely shooting it in the top/center. I was surprised, but it is what it is!

Still reading ammonia and no nitrites yet. I did put two of the filter cartridges in the water that came from my 55g community tank hang on filters, hopefully there is some seed bacteria in them. I've never actually checked water parameters when trying to cycle a tank. I had always just added fish very slowly over time. How long should it take until I begin to see nitrites??

The new Plexi is foggy in the pics as it is still warming up.

Without going into long drawn out details, I ended up not getting the 300 and got a sweet deal on a 180. After fighting for a week to get an overflow box working right, I decided I don't trust it anyway and ordered an FX5 for the tank.

So..I won't be using the sump I built. If anyone wants to pick it up or wants scrubbies..let me know and I'll give a price. The sump would be everything you've seen in the pics less the small pump to recirc water over the drip tray. Spread the word! lol

thats too bad. you did a great job. Thanks for post this thread while you built it. you have given me some great ideas..
my main question is...how noisy was it?

It sounded like a waterfall, but being in the basement it was no problem. The pumps were quiet, couldn't hear them at all.

Anyone interested in PA or between here and Michigan, I have a friend that travels back and forth from state to state frequently. Arrangements can be made :)

how far from va are you and how much would you let it go for with out the pumps?
