Filter for a 100Gal Turtle tank ?!

Thanks for all yur input , and links .

I was thinking on getting a FX5 , then thought it will be a waste of money ( good filter but for the amount of water it will have to filter its a waste of money and i could just get a smaller and cheaper filter which would do just as good ) .

So i have been looking at these Exturnal and H'O'B' filters , - Any good ?

And if anyone else can suggest a filter for me , please do . But please not a TetraTec Filter ( i have had 2 in the past and both have stopped working and had to get cleaned out once sometimes twice a week , so i do not want to go back to them anymore ) .

all i have ever used for any turtle is a internal fluval, HOT (ac70 is good series) or a canister for larger tanks or ponds... i would just get a xp3 and fill it with sponges... do water changes every week (50%) and you will be fine... if you keep there tank clean you never have bad smells... ive never once had an odor from a turtle tank

For me, the secret to keeping a turtle tank clean is to never feed it in the tank. Remove to another container to feed and evacuate, and 80% of the tank maintenance is gone. I used a Fluval 3 internal in the tank.

I kept red eared sliders for 7 years, and IMO, biological filtration is the #1 goal with turtles. You simply have to do water changes to keep the tank clear of crud. I think the Eheim would be a great one. Eheims are known for being beasts when it comes to biological filtration. That's what they're made for primarily. The 2224 like you pointed out has trays in it to remove media for cleaning. Pack the bottom with some filter pad, and the top with some biomedia, and you're good to go. I'd clean the floss/pad/whatever quite often. Go with some quilt batting and you can clean it every couple days. It'll just take a few minutes to pull it out & rinse it.

Thanks everyone . Out of the few i put links too , which one would you all choose ?

In my experience with keeping a turtle you will need to get a canister filter. Unless you don't mind the waterfall noise from the HOB filters. You can fill the tank to about 4 inches from the top and have a floating dock in the tank for the turtle. Even still, you will have a LOUD splashing from your filters. If you go with a canister filter you can place the return tube down into the tank and you won't have all the noise. You can find some inexpensive canisters that will do the job.

I have a hob inside the tank spills about 2" above the surface and it doesnt make a sound.....

Been looking abit more on the Fluval Filters and am deffently going with ever the 305 or the 405 . I curenlty have a Fluval Fx5 on a diffrent tank and am very happy with the filter never had a problem with it and i have had it for about 8 months now , so if the 305 or the 405 is built in the same good quilty way that the Fx5 is then i think i am going with the best filter with a Fluval . :) Hopefully if i can find the 405 cheap ill get that one . :)
