Filter for a 100Gal Turtle tank ?!

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
How big are they? It would work for a while...but the YBS might get a little big. The males stay smaller...so if they are males it would be better. You could post a question in the reptile section on here....

Personally I think that's too small for the three turtles. It would work for any one of them, but not all three. The slider specifically is going to be an eating and pooping machine. They get large, and they're pretty active.

If you're doing the research and spending the money on a filter I'm guessing you already understand what kind of heating & lighting you'll need?

Good point about the heating and lighting...if not...heaters...DONT get a glass one...Titanium is your friend with those turtles bumping around into it. You will need the right lights and a basking spot.

Yeah the slider is the iffy one....if they are small it will work for now. If they are adults maybe not. If your looking for what you can keep in there for good...maybe think one slider or 2 maps.

Yep heating and lighting is all sorted .

all the turtles have about a 3 - 4inch shell , top to tail .

I am guessing fish are a big NO NO ?

At that size they could al lfit...but IDK if it would work for ever.

I have koi and tuffy minnows in with my RES in a 300gal pond. She ate some of the tuffy at first...but the ones in there now have been doing ok....but she is wel fed too. The koi are as big and bigger than her but every now and then there is a nip takin out the fin. Just dont put anything you really dont want to see eaten in there if you try. It will also add bio load.

Ok thanks , he did say he had aload of Guppies and Platies in with them when he first got the Turtles but took all the fish out within a few weeks of having the Turtles . So i am not sure if i should chance it or not .

If i did go with getting fish , i would probily get a large group of Corys or Loaches and then something like a school of Tiger Barbs , Angel Fish or maybe just a few small/ medium size Cichlid .

Good idea or not ?

That kind of mix is definitely a bad idea. Those fish WILL become feeders. Corys and loaches for sure would be eaten.

agreed...one of there food sources in the wild is fish...slow ones in a tank will get hammered. Dont put anything in there you wouldnt want him to eat. I would stick a few rosy reads (tuffy minnows) in there maybe...but they might end up as food in a smaller tank like that....but...then again they are feeder fish right.

I think i will just not get any Fish for the tank and keep it a Turtle only tank .
