Hi I have a 240 litre tank with malawi fish in overstocked as the people in the shop said iys better to overstock with a fluval u4 filter but I have just put another u4 filter in and was wondering if ots better to have 2 in the tank or just one answers appreciated ?

For an overstocked aquarium like yours, you should have at a minimum enough filtration for 480 litre tank. Right now you only have enough for a 240 litre tank with just 1 Fluval U4. So yes add the second U4 that you purchased. How long has this tank been cycled?

Can you replace the poly carbon with more bio foam pad? That would be the best option since the carbon will more likely be used up within a week or 2 with an overstocked tank, and you need as much biological media like foam or ceramic material as possible.

Agree

Alongside Rocksor's good advice, I suggest adding live pothos (in a place inaccessible to the Malawis, like the filter). This purifies the water and at a much faster rate than aquatic plants.

Thankyou for your reply and iv had the tank setup for about a year now but only just switched to malawi about 1 month ago

Make sure you check ammonia and nitrites at least a few times a week using a liquid test to see if your filters are keeping up with the waste production.

It's the same foam as the one that came with it. That's if 2 will fit together.

Do you not need the poly carbon for clear water?
