Just curious. I use filter socks and back them up 100% but they start to get dirty and clog up after a few days. I'm using 2 micron 100 socks right now. I'm thinking about going to a 200micron. Or maybe I'm using a bad type?

My question is what kind do u guys use and how often do u have switch them out with clean socks?

And gimme a couple brands that are reliable lol

I don't mind switching and cleaning them but every few days is slot I think. Just trying to keep my filter up to date, maybe there is a better one out there than I'm using.

Thanks guys

You could make a prefilter before your sump so you could use larger filter socks but keep the same micron size. I use two 7" x 32" 100 micron socks on my 2200 besides my pool sand filter for mechanical and they clog every day and a half but you will not be as happy with the 200 micron when you look in your tank. If your tank isn't that wide the 200 microns might be okay for you. I pick mine up from oilfileld supply company's, cheaper and better than the ones aquarium stores keep and you can get way more sizes.

I was gonna say DB has a good solution for you. Right now I am alternating 100 and 200 micron. The 200 last around a week. The 100 last 3-4 days but do polish the water better.

I will for sure be upgrading to the ones DB uses when mine wear out.

I use (4) of the 100/200 2 in one sewn together filter bags- 7 x 16s I think they are. Really happy with them.....

intresting, never seen the dual rated ones before.i use 4-50 micron now and clean every other day. with the dual rated, are they harder to clean?i use a high pressure water hose to wash them out.(turn them inside out and spray the crud out).i just orderd and recieved 25 of the 50 micron from complete filtration services.i use their bulk media rolls and now their filter socks..

I ran 75 micron socks that were of the thicker material (felt like material). They were the 7" x 32" kind and they would last over a month before clogging. What are the dimensions of yours, they might be too small. You can even put a sock inside the ones you are using. I first did this with a 150 micron inside of the 75 micron but then removed the 150 to only run the 75.

I just flip the socks inside out and rinse them then toss in the washing machine :)

Been working super!

I just got home from Jeffers place, he has the same kind of socks as u DB and he gave me a couple to try out. They are twice the size as mine so I'm sure this will do the trick.

DB... Washing machine clean.... Do u do a washer rinse first to make sure there is no detergents left, or just throw them in after u do a load of clothes, with out detergents I'm sure. I usually put mine in the dish washer.
