Need some help guys......getting the pentair fiberglass tank with viewing window in a month....it's 8x4x2.5......stock will be

6-8 stingrays and a bunch of fish not 100% on what yet exactly

I do already have 2 fx6s 1 fx5 and an ehiem 2260.......I had thought about getting a high preasure pump with a huge sump but don't want to spend the money if I already have 4 of these top canisters ...given the wattage use would be similar..(each canister uses about 40 watts roughly )

The plan I have as of now is the 4 canisters with all 4 outtakes leading to an above ground sump of about 100 gallons leading back into the main display via gravity.....there will also be a drip system attatched to this of about 150 gallons a day roughly ........is this a good idea and adequate?...I figure I can clean one of the canisters every 3-4 weeks or so and just keep rotating

I know you have enough. So you will be cleaning each canister once every 4 months. 4-6 months is my schedule.

I don't think you have enough bio media on those canisters to handle all those Rays. They produce a ton of waste. The 150pd drip will be good. Hopefully you get a few filtration maniacs to chime in on this one because I'm curious of other opinions

Yes that's what I thought as well ....that's why I was gonna have all the outtakes of the filters into a 100 gallon rubbermaid container filled with bio......I forgot to mention I plan on having a thin layer of Caribe sea sand on the bottom as well....thinking 200 lbs. ...so that will help a little bit

The 100 gallon stock tank is gonna be packed with bio

Your read my mind.......I wanted to keep the 100 gallon stock tank full ......figured a moving bed like k1 would be perfect

If you never been around one that big you should know it is EXTREMELY loud. If it wasn't for the noise I would recommend it unless you have seperate room you can have it in. I would two 55 gallon barrels filled with tons and tons of media of your choice. Lava rock, bio balls, cermic rings, sponges and many more. Just connect the two barrels with PVC connections and bulk heads and have an inlet and outlet. Pretty simple its the same as a canister but on a much bigger scale.

For mechanical filtration filter socks are a whole lot easier to deal with than tearing apart and cleaning canisters. It also eliminates having that waste sitting in your system for an extended period of time.
