i had nitrate problems on my 720g tank, so i added a 100 gallon -almost- airtight sump, filled it with 12" of gravel and the nitrate just went away.

Wow ... 720G! What do you have in there?

This sounds interesting, since I think JBL is from Taiwan. Would you mind posting results after you've been using it for some time?

Thanks in advance!

there were 10 16"+ plecos (mostly opal dot), 80+ platies, and a couple feeder guppies.

Since im in the process of building my new home, the fish have been put in my neighbors 2000g indoor pond.

the media im talking about is some sort of gellike pellet which absorbs nitrates without adding anything to the water. I can easily be put in a cannister or sump. Absorbs huge amounts of nitrate and can easily be cleaned with water and salt. ive ordered 2 liters today to see if it works. would be really nice!

which one did you order ???

Heres a cruddy drawing of the sump when it was still active.

since then the tank has been torn down in preparation for selling the house.

thanks for the drawing !!!!:) :)

I forgot to mention, but i occasionaly throw in random organic matter, like fish food. I havent tried this, but a viable option would be to keep a small fish in there, to provide the "organic matter"
