I currently have a 55 gallon running 2 Rena XP3's. I am very well stocked.
I am upgrading soon to a 4 x 2 x 2 120 gallon. Is it enough to use the same 2 Rena XP3's on the 120, or do I need to add another one? I will not use HOB, as it will be in my living room and HOB are too noisy, as well it would make the tank have to sit too far from the wall.

Current stock which will transfer over to the 120 (may add a few more rams and Danios, maybe another pleco or two because I love Plecos)

2 Parrot Cichlids
1 Firemouth
5 Giant Danios
1 Leopard Danio
3 SAE
1 Blue Ram
3 Bristlenose Plecos
1 Bulldog Pleco
2 L201
1 L200

Thank you.

I believe that as long as you aren't increasing the stock during the initial move, the existing filters will have enough capacity in them.

On a 120G tank, I'd aim in 1200G/H total filtration in external filters, at manufacturer's stated turn over.

Keep the current filters on, and I would say if you want to add some stock, just add on a sunsun running all bio

I would personally add a sunsun 404b or to what you have right now. 10x turnover is not nessacary for "good filtration" what you are aiming for is a clean tank with no left over food or detritus, a constant 0 ammonia and 0 nitrite. So weather you want to get in there twice a week and gravel vac or add 2 more filter (which never hurts) is up to you. If I was in your situation I would add a sunsun and a powerhead to start and go from there

Filtration should never be used as a substitute for gravel vac. Filters should stay as clean as possible between cleanings by means of pre-filters to block any detritus going in. The real turn over is probably 50-70% max of the manufacturer's stated rate and its needed for better oxygen dissolution, faster nitrification, prevention of anaerobic zones, oxygenated substrate due to the more powerful flow. thus resulting in healthy decomposition rather than creation of harmful gasses like hydrogen sulfate, methane, etc......benefits are endless. One takes way less risks by having way more filtration and it will tell in the health and lifespan of fish.

I have a 125 gallon. The tank uses a 4" thick 20 ppi mattenfilter with a Lifeguards Quiet One 1200 pump to run it. I have several strips of scrap foam behind the mattenfilter as well as a Marinepure block and the heater. Extremely quiet tank.
