I just bought a 125g for my two tiger oscars and am having trouble coming up with a sufficient filtration system. I got a Emperor 400 Bio-Wheel first so I can go ahead and start the cycling process. I was eventually going to get another one before I put my fish in. The 400 says it is up to 90 gallons (that's why I was going to use two), but do I need to look at bigger filters? And if so, which ones? Also, my LFS is selling the 400's for $80, but on drfostersmith I can get one for $48. Am I missing something here, or is it really that much cheaper online? Also, any thoughts on the under-gravel filters (as a combination with the power filters) benefits? downfalls? Thanks!

I would definitely go with canisters. Supplement with your bio-wheel. I would go with an FX5 or 2 Rena XP4's. I have a 90g with 2 Rena XP4's. Personalyy, if Iwere you, Id search around for 1 FX5 or 2 premium canisters with ur HOB. I like the AquaCLear 110's for HOB's, but yours will work just as well. Go to CL, Marketplace forum, or Big Al's ( http://www.bigalspets.com/home ).

I'd go with some sort of canister with that (fx5, eheim pro 2028), maybe an aqua clear 110 as well. Those things are workhorses.

Under gravel filters are typically considered dinosaurs these days and I don't think that would help, especially with oscars

Cheaper online, but you have to pay shipping unless your order exceeds a certain amount, usually $100. No matter which filters you get hefty water changes will be needed so I'd just be consisent and get 2 more emp 400S to make things simple.

How is the durability on these things? even if they only last a year or two, its worth the cash. A canister is a canister. You can manipulate the media and filtration material any way you want. I may try one of these in the future.

I have a heavy bio-load in my 125g so I have it over filtered. I have a 20g sump with a 800gph pump and overflow, a rena xp4, a cfs 500, and a 18watt uv.

Ya I run a sump and fx5 I like overkill. Will be odd since I just moved allot of fish out and into another tank.
