Filtration for 125g?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
It's a really good filter. Almost 500 gph w no media. I would still have a 2nd or 3rd filter especially since you have 2 messy oscars. How much is he going to sell it to you for?

$50 and my 55g when I move my oscars to the 125. In terms of value, it's equal I guess, since the tank and stand is like $350-400. But in terms of cash I have to fork up, I'd say it's a steal. Plus running a 55 and 125 in my room makes it look a little crowded. For the 2nd filter, should I use the Emperor 400 or buy another cheaper canister?

If you can get a 2078 for 50.00 I would get that!

I have (2) rena XP3's on my 125 and my 150. You can never have too much filtration, I always double the recommendations from the manufacturer. As your oscars grow you will need to increase the water changes due to the amount of waste they produce. I do weekly 50% water changes. I dont have oscars in either of my tanks. I clean the canister filters about once every several months.

Yeah me too.

And a 2262 is probably overkill for a 125 anyway. If you were buying new, and wanted a Eheim, a 2260 would work fine. I like the classics more than the new models. JMO.
But a 2078 with two Emperor 400's or a Aquaclear 110 should be more than enough. Dr Foster and Smith has both the Emperor and Aquaclears on sale right now too.

I like his idea of 2 emp 400's but Iwoulld stack 2 hydor 5 sponge filters in a corner for bio.thats all the filtration he will need at a fraction of the cost of fx5 plus 1 hob

Yeah that's true. But with oscars, I would want some more mechanical filtration myself. They have poop the size of a small dog.

water changes fix mech every time:)

Just be aware, I have been looking at Oscars also everyone is telling me to be sure to overfilter as these guys get hugh and tend to be very messy. There are also a couple of diseases that oscars are prone to if they dont get proper filtration.
