Good job! Haha the website u read should be closed down. http://redearslider.com/index_water_quality.html read this instead

I wouldn't go that far, but this info did confuse me. All they are really saying its turtles and larger aquatic reptiles will be fine with 100% water changes several times a week....how this is easier I am not sure IMO. The part that confuses me is they state that no filter can handle the load yet my water parameters state different, then again, I do large water changes weekly just like I do with my fish tanks, so its hard to say I guess. But I only do weekly water changes, so I am pretty sure that if my bio could not handle what the turtles put out, I would have ammonia in my tank and I do not have a reading of any ammonia in any of my tanks. My logic is it must be the bacteria in my filter. Does that make sense?

I would love to heard from anyone that has either lots of turtles in one tank/pond or some larger aquatic reptiles like crocs, etc. Not sure if anyone keeps them on here or not, but I would love to hear about the filtration systems there.

You could do several WC's a week and not need a filter, but it's no way by any means easier. Look up what discus keepers do pertaining to WC's. They do several 100% WC's a day just to get growth and of course you wouldn't need a filter. There's no way I would do this though.

I have plants in my sumps along with a diy wet/dry filter. The plants soak up enough nutrients that I don't really do many water changes, lately I've just been letting my drip system fill my tank back up and run for a couple days.

I actually added goldfish to my sump so I can try to grow more plants.

can I have some pics of this, it sounds really neat.

Turtles get enough diseases, fungus's, and infections the way it is WITH good filtration.

I would recommend getting the highest quality/power filter you can afford and do 100% h2o changes as frequently as possible.

I work in a lab that is 50% fish, 50% herps...I run the fish side, but when I saw the condition of the snapper I told them to ditch the substrate, and do more h2o changes. Almost an immediate recovery...as far as reptiles can be concerned.

It's not pretty, but it's effective. Trying to get some potatoes going in my growbed right now, still just experimenting with what I can grow
