sorry for the tank looking like ****

I use those black star looking media, amonia carb chips, some activated carbon, I dont think I use polishing pads? ph level is at 7.4 according to the test strips ammonia is at .5, nitrate 20, nitrite 0, hardness 150, 0 chlorine, alkalinity 180,

nice fish

I have found that usually when tanks have readable ammonia readings, they are always a bit cloudy.

yours is probably doing the same.

once your ammonia level gets down to zero and stays that way it will probably clear up.

how new is the tank? typically, you should only have ammonia readings if your tank is fairly new.

if not, you are either overfeeding or just have too much biomass (overstocked) for your nitrifying bacteria to handle..

nice pair of pikes.

I agree. That was my problem about a month ago. Then, I added better bio-media (had scrubbies before) and it cleared up. I also built a sump for it.

the tanks has been up since end of may beginning of june .... fish were in there in mid july ,

thanks for the compliments on the pikes I had them since they were little babies suffering from parasites... so I took them and nursed them in a med tank then put them in the big tank and they have not left each others sides,

excuse me for my ignorance but what are scrubbies?

where do does go? they look to big to go in my filter? excuse me for my ignorance...
They work best in a sump. I used them in a canister, but had to switch to ceramic media.
