Filtration Question.

Do you guys think this filtration system will be enough for my tank/stock?

I currently have 2 Emperor 400, another HOB filter rated at 500 GPH, and one smaller one at around 150 GPH. I am more than likely getting a FX5 to help with filtration on my 180 gallon. So my total filtration system will be cycling around 1700 gallon of water per hour.

But here is my stock:
A pair of Motoro Stingrays
And around 10 Silver Arowanas (I will be keeping only some as I am raising some for my older brother's future tank, and others will be sold when older as I will only be keeping the better looking ones, lets just hope I get 2 or 3 W/O no DE.)

So do you guys think my filtration will be enough for my stock? I also do around 25%-30% Waterhchange a day if not every other day.

Definitely. Watch those arowanas after 10" as I'm sure a few will be killed.
 
your filtration should be fine for now... but once those fish get bigger, an fx5 or two should be good
 
Thanks! I will make sure to cover every inch of the top to prevent these suicidal Emo fish from killing themself. :D

I will also be more than likely getting another FX5 in the future or two more if not.
 
How big you plan on growing these aros in that tank? Generally DE doesn't even develop until 16" range.
 
Well, I have a 55 gallon right now waiting for them, and hoping to grow them out to like 7"-8" before transferring them into the 180 with my rays. In the 180 gallon hoping to grow them out to around 15"-17". (During this process I will pick out the one's with the most potential and keeping them for my brother and me, and then selling the other rest.) So space won't be a problem. Once they hit around 20"+ I will hopefully by that time upgrade to a 300+ gallon tank/pond.

Any other suggestions from the Pros?
 
The Emporers are each equivalent to six Bio-Balls. :( As a rough estimate, you can assume the three HOBs are equivalent to 18-20 Bio-Balls. For "over stocking" a tank, a canister isn't ideal either. You want a large sump with as much bio-media as you can cram in it.

For the 55g, choose a sump 25-30g and dedicate at least half of it to bio-media (more is better).

Arowanas are not from fast moving bodies of water and are not built for speed. 1700 gph in either tank is way too much flow for them.
 
Really Chompers? I usually cram around 8 filter pads into each HOB filter....and when I do filter clean ups, I usually end with half a 5 gallon bucket full of media such as filter pads and such.

As for the 55 gallon, I'm running two HOB filter rated also at 300 GPH+. Also do same WC schedule on all my tanks.

I was thinking about making my own DIY sump for the 180 gallon, but never got to doing it.
