Fin Decay and diet change

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
The feeders were not in the same tank as my gar when they all died. I had them in my smaller aquarium and all of the fish in there are fine. I'll upload some pics of the gars fins when he finally comes out of the bushes.

My biggest gar never ate anything dead, after a bunch of feeders and a few arrowana's I decided to try smelt. Smelt are those stinky fish with yellow tails and silver bodies. It was an instant hit with my gar, it even ate the ones at the bottom of the tank. I cut them up probably a 1/5 of the gars lenght and wide enough for the gar to fit the smelt in its mouth. Personally I'm not too concerned about the gar getting sick and stuff because they are a really really durable fish.

raw shrimp. but remove the exoskeleton
not necessary really, the shell is a good source of calcium(if im not wrong). remove the head thou

Get some medication for fin rot. And upgrade filtration if you can't do weekly or biweekly water changes.

PS: Wow, I never thought there were actual racist trolls here on MFK. Nateobs further spoiled an already horrible day.

Hi,
Just another observation: Most fish, (maybe not all), tend to hide alot when they don't feel good.
Of course, so do young fish. That's their instinct.

3 days later and he still hasn't come out of the bushes?
Not sure about you man, but if my fish was sick and some experts were waiting on pics to help diagnose the situation then I don't think I would wait over 3 days for him to come out on his own just to get some pics. :screwy:

Take a stick and get the fish out of hiding, take some pics and post them. Shouldn't take much more than about a total of 5 mins.

Unless of course your fish isn't worth a few mins of your precious time.:irked:

so sorry guys i have been away the couple of weeks due to work. i'm taking some pics of him tomorrow and will get them up right away. i appreciate everyone's help and very sorry for the delay.
