there is 2 large goldfish, a pleco and now 2 crayfish and a couple of otocynclids

**** man that's it... I had a POS crayfish do the same thing to the tails of a bunch of my fish... That is until the Gar finally ate it... I swear this is the truth, I have a video of my Gar eating the crayfish.
The plecos have been known to cause issues with Gar but that tail stripping **** is the work of crayfish. :irked:

Just get some scissors and "de-claw" his ass :headbang2

Or if you want to avenge your Gar for the pain he has suffered then boil that fool up with some garlic/rosemary and olive oil

this is happening on all of his fins though not just the tail fin. I started with 5 crayfish in the tank and am now down to 2. The gar also used to eat as soon as i put a feeder in the tank. Now it's hit and miss. Sometimes 20 minutes to eat a couple of feeders, sometimes a couple of hours and once in a while i'll even see them in the tank the next day. Is this damage permanent to his fins or will he recover from this. He has been acting very weird as of the last few days. He used to hang out at one spot at the top of the tank now he spends more time on the bottom. Is there something i can get to fix this??

Don't worry the fins will repair themselves. Also the crayfish snip all fins not just the tail. Also my Gar(s) won't always eat all the feeders in one sitting.

so don't do anything except get rid of the crayfish? do you have anything living with your gars? if not do you know what are good tank mates for gars?
