Final 75g bichir tank stocking thread need your Ideas

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
ok so my only issue is possibly over stocking the 125g the stock would be two oscar a Jack dempsey common plec and the black spot but if I ran three canisters
a rena a eheim and a fx6 or fx5 and did 50% wc weekly more or less accordingly would it be fine?

No, fin level water changes twice a week to reduce nitrates to below 20ppm. Get used to that level of what change even if they are not 8-10" yet. Make it a habit.

Rocksor Rocksor ok so maybe I should not get the eel?

It's entirely your call. I already know that 2x 10"+ oscars, 8" JD, and 10" common pleco in a 125g won't have below 20ppm nitrates over a 7 day period with only 50% water changes. You are going to have to do more water changes or spend more more money to keep nitrates below 20ppm.

May I offer a suggestion? Look into pothos as it will help with your nitrates a bit of you have enough. It certainly won’t replace water changes but it might be able to give you a day, maybe two between water changes depending on how much you have.

fishhead0103666 fishhead0103666 would love too but I have three cats I might build somnetting or somthing to protect the pothos and cats bu until then not gunna work with pothos do you think pothos would knock it down to only 1 fin level wc per week? any other plants that could work?

I don’t have enough experience with terrestrial plants to be able to confidently tell you however many plants it would take to get it done or even if it could be done realistically. Of course it can be done however it could take a 5’ x 3’ x 2’ area of solely pothos, just to give a hyperbole example, or it could take just a few long vines, I honestly don’t know so I can’t give you an answer I’m afraid and even if I had the experience with terrestrial plants I don’t have experience with a 125 with the stocking you want I’m afraid.

Either way I think that it would be a good idea to try. I have 2 cats myself and they don’t mess with plants however yours could and pothos is toxic for cats.
