Final catfish for my 75 gallon

Regardless I don't think I'll be doing a syno (possibly AUSD but that's not a syno). I think I will get either a four line or horsehead so let's leave it at that :). Now, to frustrate people even more (not really :)) I am giving someone my rainbow shark because he is to aggrsessive so I guess I need another bottom feeder in addition to the (either four line or horsehead) that has around the same bioload and size as a full grown rainbow shark. While I do love catfish I was thinking maybe a non cat bottom feeder to mix it up (which is why originally I got the shark). Maybe something like an eel or bichir,not sure but if it will be a non catfish then I will make a different thread for it just under the category of bottom feeders.

So, back to the jaguar which I gave up a while ago partially due to the fact I didn't think I would be able to get ahold of one. My LFS told me. They can get 5-7" ones pretty commonly and small ones occasionally. So if I did get one then here are some questions:


1) can I get just 1 because I don't have room for many more fish obviously?
2) will they be ok in my ph of 7.6 if I slowly drip acclimate?
3) if no to that last one then what are some good ways of lowering it, I've tried everything!
4) And how can I make them more active during the day other than giving lots of close together cover?

Do you have any pics of the tank in its current state? (Just curious...) the more hiding places you provide for them the more comfortable they are. And the more comfortable they are the more active they will be!

Ill have to email some to my computer but yes I do they should be posted within let's say 30 minutes or so. The hiding spaces are currently under a piece if driftwood which is claimed by a pleco and under a slate claimed by my raphael. I am going to pick up another large piece of driftwood with a few caves in it when I get the fish but I will soak it for at least a day before a put it in (boil for 30 minutes as well). I will pickup some pvc at Home Depot to put in until the driftwood is ready and if it looks good I'll leave it in. I'll get say 3 pieces and teather them together with a zip tie so there will be two next two each other with one on top so the fish has options. So he will have driftwood and pvc to hide in which should be good. If you can suggest any more types of hiding spots that look natural (other than pvc) I am open to ideas.
maybe I'll try what knifegill suggested and do a false elevated bottom but I'm not so sure how.
 
Here's the pictures:
I plan on taking out the bridge, moving the plants together possibly, moving the driftwood right a few inches, getting a small piece of driftwood with a quick-hide-cave, and making an elevated bottom on the left (slate held up by pvc pipe I think).

I think the last listed stock on PCF will work for a while if the jaguar cat is small. If left for life, the jag will eat the danios.

Also, they are notorious for hiding. Some manage to see them relatively often but those keepers appear to be few. Most keepers report they don't see their jags for months on end. Not even at feedings.

*** 1 is fine. Usually they are not territorial, so groups are usually fine too.

***7.6 is far from ideal but at the first approx., I think they are adaptable enough.

4) And how can I make them more active during the day other than giving lots of close together cover?
