Me being a huge fan of Arowana's and having some of my family going to South East Asia. I was ECSTATIC that they returned with something legal that was related to Asian Arowana's (especially a Red Arowana). It seemed after all my years of waiting as a legal foot in the door to me (30 years). It seems though everyone in the USA has settled for black market Asian Arowanas and are Okay with acquiring their Asian Arowana's that way. I still am not satisfied with black market Asian Arowana's. At this point it seems as though Arowana Farmers, importers and other interested groups with their business weight are the ones that should step up to legalize Asian Arowana's. I have posted many times what ecologically has to happen. Along with the ecological action all that seems to have to happen now is delisting of Asian Arowana's as an endangered species in the US government eyes, recognition of the CITES Trade, and political processes. If the Asian Arowana's are recognized by the IUCN Red List as five species not just one Scleropages formosus. That highly increases the chances that the less threatened species are going to be recognized by the USA government as not an Endangered Species and worthy of importation. Such as the situation with the prospects of the less threatened Red Tail Golden Arowana's (to the best of my knowledge in the wild) and greatly increases chances for importation.

Okay... red arowana.

Click here to see one that will make you

Red or Gold I prefer mine anyways. LOL.

I wish they had more statues, posters or even books here in the USA. Those are not illegal. I have got a decent collection however I could use more.

It was proposed back in 2003 that the farm-bred phenotypes of Scleropages formosus be separated out from the CITES listing. That proposal has not been approved. The following phenotypes of the asian arowana included in the US ban are:

*Scleropages formosus was redescribed to include the strain known as the green arowana. The gold crossback, which was not part of the study, was included in this species by default, though it was suspected to be closely related to S. aureus.
*Scleropages macrocephalus described the silver Asian arowana.
*Scleropages aureus described the red-tailed golden arowana.
*Scleropages legendrei described the super red arowana.

Unfortunately, the Batik arowana (Scleropages inscriptus) of Myanmar occurs in the some of the areas also including S. formosus. In 2012, the Batik aro was included in CITES appendix I within the list of phenotypes of the asian aro under CITES protection.

Oddball

Off the top of your head, have you got a recollection of who made the 2003 proposal for farm bred phenotypes of Scleropages formosus? Pardon me it was four species not five of Asian Arowana's.

Kind Regards
