FINALLY ! Channa Aurantimaculate Fry! BORN IN CANADA!

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
HI,

the "auranti fungus" is a combinated infection of fungus bacteria and small parasites that often comes with impirtred channa dues to their weakness caused by the transportation and settling into new environments (stress caused).
So it should not occur (and I have never heard of it) when homebred auranti are shipped. The shipping from auqarist to aquarist is not as stressy to the fish as the long journey from india.

Cheers

I agree i will be very suprised if it pops up on the F1 Channa. They will never have been exposed to it and as mentioned the stress factor is MUCH lower in a CB animal being shipped from hobbiest to hobbiest when compared to wild animals being caught then changing hands 4-5 times and bouncing around the world from one over stocked bare tank to another with various of water parameters/quality before finally being sold to a hobbiest.

These guys at 1" already recognize people as a good thing. The swarm follows me as I walk by lol hundreds of little faces begging for food. They have no fear at all and will eat right from my hands.

Thanks for the info and sounds promising maybe I guess F1 from hobbyists is the way to go...Maybe I will have to get back into snakeheads now that it looks as though F1 should be fungus free!! Always wanted an Auranti as they are one of the nicer looking snakeheads!!

Hi everyone time for another update,

Both parents have fully recovered from their injuries , the divider is still up but they no longer flare at eachother through it.

Juvies are now 2months old and ~2-3", i'll be starting to sell some of them soon. They are starting to show there patterns now and are eating pellets greedily. The main diet currently is NLS pellets but they'll eat anything that hits the water.

I also started to spot some canabalism about a week ago among the juvies. A
few of them had fallen behind in growth and fell prey to the larger ones.

The tank is starting to have trouble with the bio load so I picked up an 8' 30" deep pool for them. I'm Setting it up this weekend but running it a few days fish free to see where the temps sit. I expect it'll be fine but If its too warm for them then aro/dat/bichirs/frt get a summer home and theyll get the bigger tank.

And still no pix, videos, and that sort of thing?

Man, you are mean to us :)

Lol no sorry summer has hit replacing the computer became low priority as i rarley go inside in thr summer months . One of these days
ill borrow a laptop and get some pics posted .

wow... this is amazing. congrats devon :) i always suspected you'd be the first in Canada to breed these!

my auranti order never came through, so i took a little hiatus from the hobby. Let me know if you are willing to send a few my way, the f1 brood from your pair will certainly be gorgeous

I still have no computer but buyers (like everyone else) wanted pics so i used a cell. i'll have better pics as well as a whole series showing them growing from day one once i get a computer to get them off the camera. Until then here are a few to satisfy everyones curiosity.

Now 4 months old and they just came back inside from the outdoor pond last night because our nights are getting cold , it didn't seem to bother them but i didn't want to push my luck!
