i cycle with danios.... great DIY

Glass was about $180. The plumbing was about $10. Overflow glass was $15 for the clear overflow. The dark one came with the tank. Rubbermaid container was $15. Heaters were $17 for both (250W each). Free 10G to hold the cat litter containers that hold the filter media. Stand cost about $30 cuz I got some free wood, too. Here's the kicker. The tank itself cost my friend only $75! and I traded him a 30G for it. Yep, that's a real friend :o) He even picked it up and delivered it. Not too shabby! The dimensions are 6'X30"HX24"W. The fish in my 20 and 55 are all going in it. Can't wait 'til it's ready! :o)

When most people say feeders, though, they're talking about goldfish, right? I'm using Rosy Reds. I usually quarantine them for about a week before feeding them to the big guys. I figured they'd be ok for the cycle if I treated them first. what do you think?

I would still go with danios or tetras because even if you treat the rosys they might carry disease that you arent treating for. Also you are going to spend money treating the tank, so it might not save you that much money.

rosy shld not be an issue...feeder usually refers to goldfish, platy, molly....which has higher bio-load than most fish, thus better in aiding cycling of tank.

Tank looks Awesome  , Ive always used feeders to cycle my tanks an have had no troubles. But using Dainos will lessen any chances of disease that could come from feeders.
