I have wanted one of these fish for a long time and could never find one.

This guy was kind of a rescue, I was looking for a blue dempsey and spotted this guy in a tank with gold saums and they were all torn up but he was the least damaged so I had to bring him home and hopefully restore him to his potential.

He's about 5.5-6", lots of color on this guy. Can't wait to see what he's like after he's healed up.

Nice pick up. I am sure he will look great in your care in no time. Were all the others the same size as this guy? If they were, don't be surprised if this guys tail turns orange/red.

This.

I bought what I thought was a silversaum once. He was in a tank with a bunch of goldsaums, among others who looked silversaum as well. His silver coloring turned into gold coloring when he grew.

Either way, you got a great looking saum!

Personally Ive never seen them change from this type of white to orange. I havent had much experience raising too many of these guys though.
I believe the white same has been labeled as a different specie than the rivulatus.
Andinoacara Stalsbergi is what I found. Either way its a very nice looking male terror. Wish my LFS would get more variety like this. Once in a blue moon I can find a decent fish. Like how I got my Fenestratus is a tank of pink cons. Who knows how it got there, buts its a rare fish for my LFS to carry.

Yeah the others were the same size, and there was one other silver looking saum, with thinner trim on the tail.

I have bought baby gts that I thought were silvers and they turned gold, but this guy is much bigger than those, and my small golds i currently have. Is there a specific size they change at?

One other thing is that this lfs feeds their fish a super color enhancing food, to make their fish 'pop', an industry trick I guess. It makes their gold saums have blood red trim on their tails. Well, this guy pooped some neon orange poo, so I know hes been eating it, I really have hope he wont change, but I'll let you guys know what happens.

Thank you; what size was your fish when it changed color?

It could be a lucky mix, but ive never seen silvetrs at this lfs, been going for years, they know me by name lol

You should have asked if it was from the same batch (siblings) as the others. Some gold saums have white edging when young and it changes as they mature. I've seen it a few times. Anyways though, he has really nice markings on his fins.

Nice serg! I seen some of these at hacienda, is that where you got it

Thanks Julian! Yeah thats where I picked it up from. So did they have a lot of silvers in this batch?

I have also seen what appeared to be whites mixed in with golds but upon closer inspection they were actually a very pale yellow or cream that looked white among the brighter golds they were also much smaller than yours. I don't think yours will turn I'll go as far as to say at this (5.5 to 6") point I'm sure it wouln't. I like the high head, that one will develpoe a nice hump. You have a real White Saum with great potential. Please post more pics as it grows I'll be interested in following this fishes progress. GL
