So, when is it safe to officially call something a Silver suam? Does it need to be in a tank by itself? A certain size? How does one avoid getting "tricked" for lack of a better word?

A gold is a gold a silver is a silver. They don't morph colors like a Midas or RD. As I described some very light colored golds can be confused with whites when young. The best way to make sure you get what what you paid for is to find a breeder or buy from a tankfull of obviously white/silver fish marked and sold as such. Every now and then but not very often you'll find one mixed into a batch of golds as it jumped at the fish farm or got grabbed by mistake.

Nice rescue. It has a lot of potential.

I have a question. What if someone bred a silver and orange and got half and half with the fry. Then one of the orange saum offspring is bred with another orange, can some of the new offspring from those two turn out to be silver since one of the parents carries the gene? Then maybe turn orange later? Or stay silver it's whole life? Am I too full of questions today lol? Sorry if I'm derailing your thread cohazard, hope you don't mind.

Excelent question! I have no clue..haha. They might be just washed out orange and look crapy.

Nice pick up. I am sure he will look great in your care in no time. Were all the others the same size as this guy? If they were, don't be surprised if this guys tail turns orange/red.

He is to elongated to be a Goldsaum. Nice Rivulatus. I have some at my LFS, wish I had room for a pair or two.

Thanks for the info everyone.

I will update soon as he makes somr progress, hes already eating well.
