Finally got a boat!!!

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
i payed 1500$ for my boat and i think mine is a much better setup ... i also prefer metal hull ... way more durable

Depends where you fish when it comes to metal vs fiberglass. Fiberglass is heavier and will create a smoother ride in rough water but on a calm lake aluminum might be better.

i fish inland lakes... wish we could have got a carolina skiff though .. imo that is the best all around boats

These are great boats. Very small draft. I've had one in 6in of water. Very sturdy reliable boat

would be nice to fish in the ocean ... i would be worried taking my 17ft marsh hawk aluminum riveted boat on open seas

What size is the merc? Just to give you an idea the msrp for a new mercury 40 hp 4 stroke is around $5k. Not cheap for most people. Some of the larger ones in the 200 hp range can cost over $20k! That's a car lol.

If you already have a motor then you should be able to find a decent boat for less than 1500 without much trouble.

Personally I have a 115 hp merc on an 18 foot Lund deep v fishing boat and I love it. Fully loaded it's not very fast though. Probably maxes out at 40 mph on a calm day. the op could probably hit 55-60 easy wot with his boat. I plan on upgrading to a 24 foot class center console with twin outboards whenever finances allow. With student loans coming in it's not looking too good for a few years though:(. I want something more seaworthy than what I have now though for some inshore fishing.

I have no idea ill try and get my mom to take me to that house so I can see

The smoothest ride ive ever been in was my old 41' carver cockpit motor yacht. It was like a house that goes like 50mph. I miss that thing. But we also got it new and we were the first owners. It costed roughly $1 million dollars in the long run with everything over the years we had it. We later sold it. Id love to get something like that again. It was also great for fishing which I wasnt really into at the time but wish I was. Before the carver we had a 32' searay and that was also an awesome boat. But thats a whole different class of boats compared to the fishing boats. The only "fishing" boat ive ever been on in the ocean was a fishing speedboat my stepdad was captain of. Hes a boat captain. But anyways the boat was probably like 18' and it had all those cool rod holders all over the place. Very open boat. Only thing not open was in the center there was the drivers seat with a window and a bench. It was entirely open other than this. I remember one day we went out on it and we were doing 60+ mph it was insane! I remember it had these two huge motors on back. That was a long time ago. Just thinking back on all this makes me want a boat again. Id love to get one

Ya we always had the fishing equipment we just never wanted to fish. We always swam rather than fish. We used to take my whole family and swim. The boat was absolutely huge it had three floors, two bedrooms, two bathrooms, a living room/dining room/ kitchen, a big lounging area with a big bench. And a floor with the boat controls. The only time we ever went fishing we caught a couple flounder and a sandshark. That was one time only too

It's great out there. So much better than fresh IMO. It is more dangerous and more expensive though. Most people have 2 motors, 2-3 bilge pumps, multiple batteries ect...gotta be prepared out there.
