Finally got my Festae.

 • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
That set of 3 pictures looks like your Festae could go either way. I have some from Sharke's as well and almost all mine looked like yours at that size. But after 3.5" their colors began to change and it gradually became easier to distinguish the males from females. They are indeed wild caught. I purchased a few of the juvies yours came in with and a larger male and female as well. You can expect phenominal coloring as my larger male of 7" from the same collection point has lots of red interspersed with his traditional green background. But let it grow some before labeling it male. You don't want to find out it's a female after purchasing a female mate for it.
I went today and they actually had 1 last festae. It was in the last tank in the last row and you could barely see it. It didnt look all that great but it did look like a female. It is really bland looking so im really not sure if its female or male. Ill try to get some pics tomorrow once it settles in. If its another male ill be looking to find it another home. Ill keep you posted.
Thats a Mayan in that tank bro, but hey I think you got the only male left period , because I brought a Trio a month and a half ago , so you probably got the last fish from that batch. I hope he can get a tank full again:drool:

Its def not a mayan. The circle on the caudal fin is that of the festae on the upper half. Im no expert, but as all members on here looking for a festae, I def know the difference between the two. I saw it the first time around but that time I just couldnt tell. The second time around I knew it was a festae. HOWEVER, it must be the runt on the group and possibly a R-tard. Its does not swim around what so ever. Doesnt color up at all. most of the time it as a blank stare. this is the most skittish fish I have ever seen/had. I did how ever place it together with my male and it colored up somewhat and they did get along. Funny thing is that when i put them together, the male doesnt swim around either. I believe its a female but as there is little to no spangling. No where near as much as my male. hopefully time will help. probably ill get a few target fish for it and see what happens. ill get pic and a video after this weekend and Ill show you what I mean. But its definitely a festae no doubt about it.

Heres the pic of the festae I picked up which I believe is a female. Shes very skittish and does not swim around at all and has no color to her what so ever. I placed my male in with her but now he doesnt swim around either and he lost most of his color also. When I switched my male back into my main tank he was back to normal but when I switched the female into my main tank she still did not swim around and almost got eaten alive not even trying to swim away. The pics are after I placed the male in so this is as much coloration as Ive has so far with her. Any suggestions? I honestly think theres a problem with her. She must have been the runt of the group. Anyone experience this before?

Does she have any other tank mates in the first tank? How long did you give her to settle in to the first tank before you added the male? Is she eating at least? From my limited experience, I find that time is a factor when it comes to having festae settle comfortable in their environment especially at smaller sizes.

She was alone in the first tank. Now shes with the male in the first tank. I waited a week before I put the male in so she could snap out of her funk. She never did. She would either lay on the bottom like in the pics or swim to the filter and hide under it. But no swimming around. She would only eat if a sinking piece of food just happened to float in front of her face. She will no go after the food. The addition of the male actually makes her a lil more confident and they both come out in the open and lay there. but still no swimming. No fighting at all though. they do sit there together.
