lol and ironically bamboo IS NOT an aquatic plant i dont care what the idiots at petco/petsmart told you but they are not, it will slowly decay in your tank raising your amonia lvls, etc, if you want plants why not buy some that are actually aquatic, like java fern or anubias, etc

hmmmm. that sucks, i wasnt aware of that.. the pet store i go to has them in every other tank!! theyre actually a dollar more than the other plants but i like the bamboo. o well.. i sopose i can find somewhere else to put them not under water.....

The bag it came in said "All around the world" it was a little pricey.. Its reeeeally fine sand, I had to leave a layer of gravel on the bottom bc its too fine to be by itself. Its very pretty but too hard to maintain.. Im thinking about putting the gravel back in =/

I don't think you should put gravel... IMO i think it looks better with sand, but just use a more coarse sand. In one of my tanks, i have sand called Eco-Complete African cichlid sand...(its a mixture of black and white sand) and i love it... it looks good and also helps keeps your PH Balanced very well!! :headbang2
Yeah... Very fine sand like you have will eventually get stirred up by your fishes and get sucked into your filter intake and will jam your filter somehow, for now you should wrap a nylon around the intake to prevent that.

I know many experienced fish keepers who keep bamboo without trouble, that yes it growing for years without dying or hurting the levels of their tanks... Just keep an eye on them.

I would keep sand, but for a good price and great look buy Pool filter sand from Leslie's Pools... Their sand is perfect size and look! There is one around the corner for the Uncle Bills and one by Petco... the ones in Greenwood! It should be about 9.00 for 50bls. Just run water through it in a bucket before adding. I just add it, but best to clean first...

Great pictures, but I wouldn't do gravel. Do the pool filter sand as mike suggested, Leslie's is right down the street from me right next to PETCO on 31South.

Yeah, go for the pool filter sand. It's great stuff

you shouldnt get rid of the sand, it looks good. i know people as well that have kept bamboo in there tanks without any problems....java moss is always easy to take care of for a fall back plant if the bamboo happens to not work out. nice tank btw

I say keep the sand. I would mix some other color sand with it to so it doesnt look so "flat" ;)

I just put it in the tank. I have never had a problem with it being dirty. But that's just me. But I second the PFS from Leslie's, it is just heavy enough that you can pretty much gravel vac it.
