I expect the tropical's will eventually turn on the tiger fish, but maybe if they are all well-fed always you will get lucky. Remember, those exact two tropical gars have participated in some pretty gruesome kills.

Sorry bro. That was a great-looking fish.

But sometimes we all go for it, happens to the best of us.

thanks. after the fact my wife showed me a pic that makes me 99% sure that the big trop did it. it was taken post death but it seems to be the best fitting suspect. since it is a cool pic in its own way ill post it here. you can seen that trop is getting a nice pattern going on my black sand. it couldnt eat it but that didnt stop it. they are well fed and dont bother the bowfin of the same size or the smaller gar in the tank.

also did those trops always try to take a finger off you like they do me? neer fails my hand goes into the tank they try to eat it. evern through the top they go for it. lol

yeah it was most likely the trop. mine have been incredibly aggressive as well

My trops would go after my hand if was near the surface, not if I was arm-deep in the water. One of them once bit my finger and smashed a glass test tube in my hand into pieces while I was doing a water test.
