After months of searching for a male, after hoping they'd grow up to be male, I finally have ONE! And he picked one of the three ladies to reproduce with!

Now, after reading some previous posts I do suspect that these are unfertile eggs as they are white - is this right or am I lucky? The eggs cannot have been there more than a few hours.

I have read that IF they are fertile then it takes roughly 3 days to hatch - is that right??

Curious to see if this "worked" if so then I'm off to buy a smaller tank to seperate the mum + dad to be with their babies.

If they aren't fertile then whats the chances of them reproducing soon again and getting it "right" ??

Ouuu, very excited :) sorry for all the questions but if anyone has any further tips, info, anything it would be much appreciated.

Thanks :)

(one last one - now that I assume this is a "pair" the other two females will have to go right? Or do the males switch ladies between batches?)

From what I understand, white eggs are dead eggs. Are ALL the eggs white?

How do you know they paired off? Is the male vigorously protecting the eggs while the female huddles over the eggs and "fans" them?

I've had quite a lot of drama in my tank recently with eggs so I'm learning all kinds of things about fish behavior while breeding.

i did not see one place where you mentioned what type of fish you are talking about.. but i will assume ... if the eggs turn white then they are not fertile but instead growing a fungus.. sometimes not all of them fungus.. sometimes the parent will take the bad ones away ...but if she doesn't take them away... and they are left there ..the fungus will spread even to the possible good ones.. since this is the first time you have seen eggs.. i would leave it alone and watch what happens.. and i hope it is a male and female..because females have eggs with or with out the male present.. alot of times young males will miss the fertilization altogether.. so let them practice a few times.. and hopefully if they are a pair they will get it right.. yes one male with several females is fine..in most fish...

Well from what I assume they have paired as they are sticking by each others side and he is not letting anyone else anywhere near the batch. He's suddenly gone mega agro!

So far they are all white, but will keep staring avidly for changes :)

Thanks.... woke up this morning and checked right away.

Few were white, few are still clear.

What colour should I be looking for to tell if they're fertilized?
