Finally! I got a Payara:)

ut oh...just found a 280gal for sale online...:)

You've got a great fish there coco seriously, give it the tank is deserves.

I agree with them, you shouldn't be thinking about a 100 for a 15 inch armatus.

You should be thinking more along the lines of a 30 inch wide tank, but at LEAST 24.

Until he gets over 18 inches, at least pick up a cheap 180, or indeed the 280 you've just seen.

Seriously, a 100 is not enough.

^^^^^^^ Yup. I agree. Although I have not owned any ATFs. That being most of the reason why.

Ya I totally agree he needs his space to grow...just need to find the money to buy the tank now. If I'm gonna drop some cash on a new tank I might as well just save up for the largest I can get cuz I already have 3 empty smaller tanks taking up space in the garage. Plus for a used tank the diff isnt all that much from 180 to this 280.

I'm not sure about tank size for an ATF I've never had one...

For those of you that feed your armatus market shrimp how do you do it? are you able to just drop them in dead and they know to go eat it or did you have to do the string technique to fake like its alive? when mine was small and i was able to feed him krill he used to hit them up on the surface cuz i have a couple jets making fast current which made them move.

OK Coco, cool. So what do you need to do to the 125? You should get him back in there asap :)

I have no experience with Armatus at all, only pics and videos. And I have only owned a small ATF.

However, they are extremely fast, flighty and nervous like an Acestro. And absolutely they need a pretty big tank, even small ones.

Simply from videos I have seen, Armatus look a lot less flightly and nervous, they look quite calm actually. So from what I have seen I would agree indeed.

To be honest, that's one of the reasons I am veering towards Armatus rather than GATF, as until I buy my own place I can't get an enourmous tank.

Mine is calm and very calculating and is so bold that if you get near him he will get Pi$$ed and actually confront you instead of fleeing....he rarely will back down from anything..I have even startled him and came up on the tank on his blind side, just to have him slowly turn and start jawing and going through his normal displays before he actually headshakes at the glass...IMO these guys are not like any of the other payaras in habit and personality...get yourself one and you wont regret it ;)

Sounds just like my kind of fish DMACK :D

The kind of behaviour you described is exactly why I love snakeheads so much.

Would you say they're definitely more bold and bolschy than a Tatu then? As this is precisely why I am gunning for an Armatus rather than a Tatu.

It's amazing how different they sound compared to their smaller cousins, the Scombs, which are nervous and not bolschy at all.

He will be back in the 125 this weekend. Since it was a planted tank its mostly laterite substrate so just trying to clean up a corner turns the entire tank into a mud pool so think I cant even see my hands so I didnt want him in there while I clean it.

I might be wrong here but in MY experience with tats, thier boldness/bravery/assertiveness comes in numbers. The larger the group the more aggressive they are. I have never kept just one. I had 5 at 1 time and that group was fearless....watching the shoal dwindle in numbers they seem to be growing more skiddish. I am sure the Armatus has something to do with this. I see some of the Armatus attitiude in the Tats BUT only towards prey/ feeders.....not to a person.

If attitude is mainly what you're after Tats even in large #s aren't going to rival an Armatus.
