Excellent. I have 4 factors in judging fish.

1) How insane looking it is
2) How much attitude/aggression/character it has
3) How beautiful it is
4) How active it is

Sounds like the Armatus scores pretty highly in at least 2 or 3 of those categories :D

Sounds just like my kind of fish DMACK :D

The kind of behaviour you described is exactly why I love snakeheads so much.

Would you say they're definitely more bold and bolschy than a Tatu then? As this is precisely why I am gunning for an Armatus rather than a Tatu.

It's amazing how different they sound compared to their smaller cousins, the Scombs, which are nervous and not bolschy at all.

IMO they are alot bolder than tats one on one....watch this vid of mine,at the beginning the mouthing ect that he is doing is how he reacts when I am too close to the glass...this preceeds usually body shakes ect before he attacks something...he has quite a ritual when showing aggression:

wow nice vid Mack...what a beast. I'm so happy I found this site!

It's funny, you don't really get the full effect of how aggressive they can be until you add some fish that they absolutely hate to the tank. If you really want to see what they're capable of, try adding some tats, tarpon, tinfoil barbs or basically any silver fish too big to eat. they'll start cruising the tank like a shark and they will relentlessly chase, swipe at, and dive bomb the intruder. You'll see how territorial they really are. Honestly, it's my favorite fish, hands down. Whish I had the space for one.

I put in a school of about 20 giant danios approx 3-4" as food, but also for some excitement...they are top/mid water fast flashy movers...you want a good show try it sometime..lol not only were the group blasted relentlessly, but several dropped to the bottom dead from wounds and others were eaten...there is one sole survivor left who is named "speedy"..haaaaaaa

I have been wondering something for a while now.......

Does the upbringing of these things have an effect on aggresion later on?????

Is one that has been kept solitary it's whole life tend to be MORE aggressive than one that has been raised with tankmates?

Or do the ones raised with tankmates just eventually snap and become more aggressive than one raised in solitary?

Or does this have an effect at all on aggresion?

D.M. When did yours begin displaying the aggresion towards you that you speak of? Has it always been there or did it become more aparant at a certain size?

And finally.....does diet play a part in how aggressive the fish is?

Mine at about 7 inches hasn't seemed to hit the "angry" stage yet.....I actually see him getting chased around on ocasion by the fei feng. It also hasn't really showed any aggresion towards the Pink tailed Chelceus yet.....something I thought would be evident in the first month.

Maybe a school of Balas would change his attitude.......lol

very good and valid questions ;)
mine showed very territorial aggression around 4" and aggression toward me(outside the tank factors) shortly after...to be honest I wouldnt trust mine with other fish...I tried a juvi jag that was approx4" and it was killed within an hour of putting him in the 220......I believe if solitary they tend to claim the tank as territory whereas ones that are mixed with fish are forced to a certain area and sacrifice the rest of the tank as community and respect it to a point.

rays or bichirs are a great addition. get along great w mine
