Finally in their new home!

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Tank and fish look really nice! Have you thought of putting any low maintenance plants like ferns in there? The greens would pop and I think it would compliment the fish nicely.

Just some constructive criticism, it looks really good and you should be proud of raising such nice fish, love the females especially.

Thank you. I do appreciate criticism:) I have thought about it. I too think the green in plants would pop nicely and compliment the terrors colors. And I do love plants. I may add some plastic ones if I find any that look natural enough to not make me cringe.
My only worry right now about adding plants is I don’t have a third dedicated edrain. My male loves to shred plants. Currently there isn’t anything that can clog the drains in the tank, so I have some time to work out an edrain before attempting real plants.

That looks so nice...I eventually want to move to a more natural look in my tank as well. I just need to figure out lighting and plant care for a cichlid tank.

Wow!
Beautiful tank and beautiful fish!
I like how the wood reaches up high and still looks natural. I'm trying to figure out how I might achieve something similar.
Nice job!
Where did you source the wood?

Thank you.
It’s just wood I collected from a tree that was knocked down a few years ago on my property. It was one really big branch and I cut it to fit the tank. I didn’t get to pre soak it, and it was too big to boil. So I’ll have stained water for sometime. Water changes should keep it from being too noticeable.

I thought you'd say you found it... The best things in life are free huh?

Yes they are:D
You save money, plus you get the satisfaction of hunting it down. It took me weeks to find a suitable branch. Rocks are much easier. The farmer we rent to dumps rocks behind our grove. That gives me an endless rock supply:)

Everyone has settled in well. Most of the time Greenie stays on the left side of the tank and Jade to the right. Oliver is in the middle a lot and pesters Greenie. He clearly wants to spawn, but she isn’t ready so she’s been nipping him. I’ll be salting the tank for his fins after today’s water change.

Jade’s egg tube has been dropping since being in the new tank. And her color is much darker(I attribute that to the dark back and sand) but could be spawning dress.
You can see here her tube and a very round belly.

Another thing.... see all that poo^^^
I decided to try using the quick vac I’ve had for nearly a year. I got it new in the box with a free tank I picked up last year.
I did not have high hopes for this thing.

Turns out it’s awesome! Not something I’d use in my other tanks with gravel, but it’s perfect for sucking the poo up off the sand. Just hover it above and wiggle it a little to stir things up and that’s all it takes.
All clean:)

This will make water changes much easier. My syphon hose isn’t long enough to reach the left side of the tank and still empty out the window. That means using a bucket, and that sucks. So this has fixed my problem:) Yay!
