As the title suggests, today I ordered a brand new 40 gallon glass setup with the "everything needed to support a tank" along with a nice stand (which my parents approve of). I've been waiting for this moment for the last 8 months (as some of you may recall in some of my former posts) and though it may not be the size I hoped for (they totally ignored the research I've done to find the average tank size on MFK which BTW is i think 87.43.... ) I'm still pleased that I finally got them to break down and let me get a tank, best of all they are paying for the expenses. So basically I have to pay for just the fish and I guess the decor if I add any.

The tank isn't coming till next tuesday so I have a little more than a week to think of what to stock it with. I was leaning toward the heavily planted tank with a whole community of small fish like the ones in PFK and TFH magazines. But I'm looking for ideas from the rest of the MFK network. It's standard 40 gallon size 38" I think. No special filter, just one or two HOBs, standard heater, and for now, a standard one bulb light strip (trying to replace with T5 or some other quality light good enough for a heavily planted tank).

All ideas welcomed and appreciated! FINALLY!!!!!! THE POWER OF PERSISTENCE HAS PREVAILED!

planted tank for african cichlids IMO aint that good as they prefer hard water.

that site is a trusted source, however you're still not going to have a lot of light with that fixture for a heavily planted tank. you may want to get a higher watt output, but its all relative to what you're growing. if you want a heavily planted tank, either a community tank with some killis and other peaceful SA fish or you could get some angels or discus

you live in SoCal.... the promised land of CL finds. you may want to check out CL for a couple weeks for some lights before you buy that from petplace
