FINALLY! Pictures Of My 17" Remora

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
very nice cool fish man! i like its head. kinda looks like a car ran over it leaving tire marks. or someone stepped on its head leaving a shoe mark haha. how much did it cost? and they are fine without attaching itself to bigger fish?

I wonder if their sucker has any abrasives that would scratch the acrylic?

Wow, that's so cool! I thought I remembered Zoodiver saying that remoras need several host sharks to choose from in order to be healthy...

I have never heard that, but I've seen quite a few videos of them in their own tank and perfectly healthy. As long as I see him swimming freely and eating good I don't think there could be a problem. Heres a website that talks about them and according to it remoras are fine without a host. http://www.wetwebmedia.com/remorafaqs.htm

no the sucker is purely soft tissue I can't see it hurting the acrylic, mine doesnt even attach to the acrylic

From what i've read theyre fine without attaching to another fish and it was a trade in so they didn''t know what to sell him for and I got him for $55

It'd be kinda cool if they did, though. Kinda like a backwards, saltwater pleco.

And I think their sucker doesn't need to be abbrasive, since shark's skin has backward facing little tiny hooks. Kinda like velcro. Well, at least some species do.

They attach to more than just sharks, sea turtles, marlins, and tuna are all prime hosts for Remoras. And I do sometimes wish he would attach to the glass but I like seeing how he swims, his fins remind me of a butterfly in the front with a long whip-like tail

The one I used to see at the lfs was stuck to the glass quite a bit. I worry that my crushed coral substrate could get between the sucker and the acrylic as well. I'm interested to see how it goes in your tank.

On another note, the one that was in the lfs for over a year and a half never had a shark or larger fish in with it. The previous owner did not own a larger fish either.
