Finally snapped a few pics.....

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Also, to be clear Wes listed it as Cichla sp Sao Francisco, so imo he was as straight as can be about the origins of the fish. I can't say anything about the other vendors that have brought in fish like that, as I've only dealt with Wes and Rapps for Cichla. I've heard of other people mention these Sao Frans as being Kelberi x Piquiti, and some others Kelberi x Orino. All I know is that it's an awesome fish and am very interested to see how it progresses as it gets even bigger.

So, as you guys can see I uploaded these 3 different fish, ALL were bought labeled as Kelzuls. The first Kelzul if from nguyen_mpn here on MFK. Then we have Bassinmikes Kelzul, he bought it from Lovethemfish a couple months back, then mine, the last 5 pics. I bought if form A Plus Aquatics down in Socal. I have known the man that owns and runs the place for 2 years now, and he actually sent me an email asking if I wanted one. so I bought him, But as you guys can see, they all have there differences. Nguyen_mpn's verticals bars are even spaced out, Bassinmike's kelszul's first bar is not even with the 2nd and 3rd bars, and mine. My Kelzul's bars are obviously not even. Compared to bassinmike's Kelzul, hes, you kinda have to look to see the spacing, mine you can see it immediately. So with that being said, I agree with Gangster, " One of the bass w/ a lot of controversy and BS behind it.
Another one of them cichla import shams...false labeling to make a buck." But I noticed when I was takig the pics, that on my "kelzul" were the bar and the circle meet, I don't know what that's called, but instead of it being a straight line, it forms almost like a circle, so lets wait and see how these "kelzuls" turn out!!! I guess we will all have to wait to see how ours turn out!

Looks like a cb kelberi x azul to me....
I bet it was bred in those ponds that are all over asia.
Looks cool regaurdless.

Thanks for the discussion guys. It's really good information that I wouldn't have come up with on my own, for sure. I'm pretty decent with taxonomy and id with fish.....hell, I studied it in college and practiced it professionally working with IDNR and USFWS. That being said I'm pretty noobish with Cichla so this is valuable information as far as I'm concerned. I'm not a fan of hybrids in general, but I'm happy with this fish. It's growing to be a good looking fish and somewhat different looking as well. Now I just need to find it a couple more tank mates, since I've decided to NOT get out of cichla lol.

I recorrect my opinion, the body shape is the same as azul. didnt pay attetion on that.

Still, the color are really weird, but as I said in another topic, I was told that kelzul are pretty common where both exist.
